Trustees visit Te Nohoaka o Tukiauau

The Trustees visited Te Nohoaka o Tukiauau in November 2020 for the Trust’s AGM.

Te Nohoaka o Tukiauau /Sinclair Wetlands is a 315ha site owned by Te Rūnanga o Ngāi Tahu. It is a regionally important wetland that is a wāhi taonga – a culturally significant site for mahinga kai, conservation, recreation and education.  The site Co-ordinator, Glen Riley, was very generous with his time, and showed the Trustees around and explained the progress that has been made in restoring the wetlands.

The Trustees were inspired by what has been achieved at this site by Glen and his team and there are a lot of similarities between the two sites, and much that could be applied to Te Kōawa.

The visit and the kōrero will inform some of our future decisions. Thanks to Glen for his time and hospitality.
